The country’s 650,000 IT freelancers have made a name for themselves in the online marketplace by fighting data breaches, critical digital infrastructure, digital inequality, and unequal influence. But still, Bangladesh is being attacked by cyberattacks every now and then.
Added to this is the risk of intellectual property protection. Because of these two reasons, ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak accepts that the image of the country is being undermined in the world. And for this reason, he called on the world leaders to come together in the protection of cyberspace. He also proposed setting an international standard on emergency response in cyber security and multilateral joint agreements on public-private partnerships.
The ICT State Minister of Bangladesh made this call in a speech given at a sideline meeting held on Wednesday at the 78th session of the General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
He said cyberspace is a model. There are no fixed boundaries. So to be safe in this world, the whole world should be united. I think most of the participants here will agree with me.
There are two factions in the cyber world. A group of them are already victims of hacking. And the other party does not know that they are also under the threat of hacking, added Palak.
Zunaid Ahmed shared with the world leaders about the recently passed Cyber Security Act for citizen protection, highlighting the bitter experience of central bank reserve theft in his speech at the annual meeting of Action to Secure Cyber Space for All organized by the United States. He also informed about the creation of the Data Privacy Act.
Palak also said that regular security audits, surveillance, etc. need huge investment in Bangladesh to deal with cyber risks. In addition to investment, information exchange among themselves; Develop skills and capacity and make an international agreement establish an incident response team, and set a standard. Also, regular joint cyber drills and simulation programs, initiation of cyber diplomatic activities, and cross-border collaboration are essential.
This session will continue till September 26.
