Cyber Security Awareness Foundation will observe Cyber Security Awareness Month in October with private sector stakeholders targeting youth and children. The national committee of the foundation announced this awareness campaign with four messages on digital security in four weeks at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Saturday 23 September.

The organization says that to play a responsible role through awareness, everyone should practice staying safe on the internet throughout the month.

Presided over by CCA Foundation President Kazi Mustafiz, national committee member Engineer Mushfiqur Rahman said that according to the global report, the new type of cybercrime has increased by 281.76 %. And it happens because of ignorance. That’s why we’re working to build a culture of using digital devices and being online or how to move in the digital space. I will teach learners to use the three filters. That’s why we want this month to be celebrated nationally. We collectively will build digital hygiene.

Tapasi Rabeya, Director (Arbitration and Training) of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), said that although the device is handed over to the children, it is not a matter of their safety. Therefore, importance should be given to making women and children aware.

Similarly, Mohammad Abul Hasan, a member of the National Committee on Cyber Security Awareness, said, “During covid19 pandemic, we gave internet access and digital devices to children but did not teach them how to use them and stay safe. Again, they themselves are careless. So, this campaign made everyone aware.

Mohammad Ashfaqur Rahman, Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh System Administrators Forum, said that by joining this campaign, his organization will create various awareness packages for the security of IoT devices and systems at the enterprise level.

Kausar Uddin, General Secretary of The Internet Society Bangladesh Chapter, said, “During COVID, we have connected children and some people to internet access or digital devices, which would have been much later. But even though we handed over digital devices to them, we could not make them aware of their use. Moreover, our educated people are also unaware of this. As far as I know, the girls of Dhaka University themselves share Facebook passwords with their boyfriends on the question of trust. Even a male teacher has been affected in this way. Let us not forget that passwords are like toothbrushes. Not everyone can use it. So, we have to give the most importance to awareness about these issues.

Robi Axiata Vice President Sanjay Chakraborty said that Robi’s internet users have increased by 20 percent in one year. More than 18 crore MFS accounts came in. About two percent of mail phishing on Gmail. And it is through this phishing that digital fraud and attacks are more. And the issue of digital security is an ongoing process. When we think a little differently, we can understand its importance. A password or awareness is like a car brake. Braking isn’t just about being safe; To speeding up. Digital security is needed to move fast.
