Google’s server was opened on Thursday. However, social media and video storage cache servers including Facebook, X, Twitter have been closed. This initiative is basically to bring the social media under accountability, said the the Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

In order to open the mobile internet, the state minister will hold a meeting with the members of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) at BTRC on Sunday at 9 am. The current president of this organization is Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman.

The secretary general of the organization is Mohammad Zulfikar. Apart from him, Robi’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Shahed Alam, Banglalink’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman.

It is reported that in this tripartite meeting, BTRC Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed besides the concerned Directors General and Telecommunication Secretary Dr. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman and top officials of the department will be present. The meeting will discuss the risks of using mobile internet. At the same time, the unused package of mobile internet which has been closed for seven days can also be discussed. However, it was not confirmed till Saturday that any mail was sent to Facebook and Twitter inviting them for the meeting.

According to the concerned, this mail will be sent after the meeting on Sunday. Considering that, customers will have to wait more to use these applications. However, if the mobile internet is opened on Saturday or Monday, it is said that applications like Facebook, Twitter, X will be closed there as well.

According to the sources, even if Google’s cache servers (GCN are opened), this problem will continue until the BTRC withdraws the decision to shut down Facebook’s cache servers (FNA), WhatsApp’s cache servers (FNA), and Twitter’s cache servers. Facebook will still run the same way it is running on the proxy server. It is difficult to prevent. So, Facebook will run as an open secret.

Talking to the stakeholders, it is said that due to lack of internet on mobile phones, the loss at customer level is 200 crore taka in the last seven days. And Mobile operators are also thinking about the technical aspect of carrying forward the unused data of the customers. Advice has also been sought from BTRC in this regard.

BTRC Chairman Engineer Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed said, customers were not able to use mobile internet since July 16. No decision has been made yet on whether the unused data will be refunded to the customers in such a situation. A decision in this regard will be taken soon. Decisions can be made to allow customers to use unused data.

About 40 percent of the 6 terabytes of bandwidth that currently flows in the country is through DPI of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). But even after 68 hours, Youtube.com.bd was not opened even after 68 hours due to unknown reasons. As a result, customers are losing customers who are doing business following the government directives. Because, even after lifting the ban, their customers can’t watch YouTube. But no one is fully controlling the fact that more than 60 percent of the bandwidth is bypassed by other IIGs. Even if the government shutdown continues, many services are running secretly. Technical engineers also think that it is not possible to completely stop these.
