Dr. Muhammad Mehedi Hasan, Additional Secretary of the ICT Division, has formally taken charge as the Administrator of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).
On Thursday, December 5, he officially joined his position at the Ministry of Commerce. Later in the day, a formal ceremony was held at the BASIS office, attended by members of the association and officials from the BASIS Secretariat.
During the ceremony, Dr. Mehedi expressed his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities with the support of all members. He stated, “BASIS is tirelessly working to develop the country’s software and ICT sector. I will do my utmost to carry out my responsibilities and further elevate this sector internationally.” Additionally, he voiced optimism about conducting a transparent and acceptable election following necessary reforms.
Dr. Mehedi’s appointment as Administrator was made official on Wednesday, December 4, through an office order issued by Muhammad Navid Shafiullah, Additional Secretary and Director General of the Trade Organization Division of the Ministry of Commerce.
The order noted that under Section 17 of the Trade Organization Act 2022, the reconstituted board of directors of BASIS had been dissolved, and Dr. Mehedi Hasan was appointed as Administrator. He has been tasked with organizing a fair and impartial election within 120 days and transferring responsibilities to the elected committee, with subsequent notification to the ministry.
