The age of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) is about to end. Now, ‘E-Passport’ is to emerge. E-Passport is going to be introduced from next July. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been signed with a German company in this regard. A chip of this e-passport with latest technology will make the world tour so simple.

Electronic Passport has already been introduced in 118 countries across the world. Now, Bangladesh is going to introduce it. It will contain the image of cornea and finger print as security sign. All the information of the passport holders will be stored in the chip remaining in the pages.

In 2016, government took a decision to introduce E-Passport besides MRP. A decision to extend the validity of passport was also taken at the same time. As per the decision, in case of renewing MRP passport, the passport holder must have an E-Passport from the day E-Passport will get introduced.

Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina already approved the sample copy of E-Passport. As per Prime Minister’s instruction, procedure to develop E-Passport is rapidly going on. E-Passport will be introduced in Bangladesh through G-2-G along with the German technology and for this purpose, ‘E-Gate’ will get installed in airports, landports and seaports. After crossing Immigration Check Post, an E-Passport holder can perform emigration formalities automatically without standing in queue.
