Numbers of women are still not interested to choose IT as profession, as it came to be found in a research of Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) regarding the challenges of women participation in ICT sector.

Chief Executive Officer of BIID Mr. Shahid Uddin Akbar presented the research at BRAC Center in Mohakhali, Dhaka. Last April, the survey was conducted on 164 girls from different universities.

As per the survey, if women participation proportion in ICT sector can be promoted to 82% from 33.7%, then it would be possible to increase country’s economic growth rate for more 1.6%. Many of the women in our country still are not interested to take IT as profession, as the research shows.

In the program, chief guest honorable Speaker of National Parliament House Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury focused on making ICT popular among all aiming to increasing women participation in ICT.

ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said- Government will organize training for around 3 lakh youth in IT sector within 2021. Aiming to encourage women in IT, we also allocated 20% to 30% quota for women in training sessions.

On the occasion of International Girls in ICT Day, the program was jointly organized by Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID), BRAC, Plan International Bangladesh and PreneurLab.
