Country’s five mobile phone operators have applied for availing license to initiate 4th Generation (4G) telecommunication services in Bangladesh. The operators are Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, Teletalk and Citycell. Among them, Citycell’s activities are temporarily stopped. After following all the procedures, 4G service is likely to be launched within next March, as expects Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

Regarding 4G license, BTRC Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood stated all these in a press conference held at BTRC office on January 14, 2018. January 14, 2018 was the last date to apply for 4G license. Besides applying for 4G license, Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink and Citycell have also applied to participate in Spectrum-Auction, as BTRC Chairman informed.

Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood said-Two evaluation committees have been formed to verify the applications for 4G license and participation in Spectrum Auction. They are going to submit the report to the commission by January 23, 2018.
