The 12th National Parliament Election-2024 ended on Sunday. For the first time an initiative was taken to establish contact with the Election Commission from the polling station on the app. For that purpose, the EC has given instructions to keep uninterrupted telecommunication and internet services running before the polls. In view of this, the controller BTRC Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Sarkar took special initiatives to ensure quality telecommunication network as an emergency service before, while and after the polls.
Under his guidance, on January 4, BTRC sent a letter to the Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Department of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Directorate, Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Directorate (LGED), Secretary of the Election Commission Office. The letter was sent by Brigadier General, Director General of Engineering and Operations Department of BTRC Md. Ehsanul Kabir.
The benefits of this initiative have also been met at the field level. No major glitches were reported in internet connectivity during polling to get live updates of polls.
On Monday, BTRC informed about how it was possible to keep the network uninterrupted during such a big event. According to the organization, all concerned telecom operators have been given instructions from BTRC to take necessary steps in advance based on the election. BTRC made necessary coordination with concerned agencies to ensure movement of vehicles engaged for emergency network maintenance of telecom operators.
In order to ensure uninterrupted telecommunication services, the concerned organizations were informed from BTRC, so that the underground optical fiber is not damaged during the road digging activities. As per the instructions of BTRC, all the concerned mobile, tower-co, NTTN, ISP, IIG, ICX, IGW etc. operators undertook round-the-clock network assurance activities including optical fiber network maintenance including important sites, PoP, hub-sites of telecom operators.
To ensure quality telecommunication services, telecom operators arranged round-the-clock network monitoring on January 05-07; they made arrangements of portable and diesel generators (PG, DG) to ensure power supply, arrangement of important equipment (Spare Parts) to keep the network operational, including arrangement of necessary mobile BTS. BTRC also said that it has taken various steps.
